San Francisco, CA – On February 13, 2025, just before the excitement of NBA All-Star Weekend, Shooting for Peace teamed up with NBA legends, JP Morgan Chase, and AAU Sports to bring an unforgettable experience to the students of Thurgood Marshall High School. The event featured Jerome “Junkyard” Williams, Eric “Broadway” Jones, NBRPA CEO Antonio Davis, NBRPA Chairman Charles “Choo” SmithRuscia Brown, and representatives from JP Morgan Chase. Together, they shared powerful lessons about financial literacy, mental health, and the importance of building a strong foundation for success.

Financial Literacy and Mental Wellness: A Life-Changing Discussion

The event kicked off with a fireside chat between Jerome Williams and the Black Student Union (BSU) students, diving deep into the significance of financial literacy and mental health awareness. Williams shared insights on smart money management, long-term wealth-building, and how mental resilience plays a crucial role in personal and professional success.

Following the fireside chat, the discussion expanded into a Q&A panel in the school’s auditorium, allowing the entire student body to engage with the guest speakers. Students asked thought-provoking questions, gaining firsthand knowledge from some of the best basketball players of all time and financial experts.

A Game to Remember: Celebrities vs. Students

After an inspiring discussion, the event wrapped up with a high-energy celebrity-staff vs. students basketball game. NBA legends, AAU executives, and Shooting for Peace representatives laced up their sneakers for a fun, competitive matchup with the students. The game was filled with laughs, unforgettable plays, and moments that showcased the unifying power of basketball.

A Day of Inspiration and Hope

The Shooting for Peace initiative continues to empower young minds by combining the excitement of basketball with education, mentorship, and personal growth. The students of Thurgood Marshall High left with valuable knowledge, new perspectives, and the motivation to pursue their dreams—both on and off the court.
