A Game-Changing Event for Brooklyn Students
Brooklyn high school students recently got a unique experience that combined basketball and financial education. The Shooting for Peace program, in partnership with the New York Knicks, JPMorgan Chase, NBA Alumni Chapters: Las Vegas and New York, and the AAU Council, hosted an interactive session at the High School for Global Citizenship. The event aimed to equip students with knowledge about money matters while giving them a chance to engage with basketball professionals. Below you can find a video that was put together by the pix11 media on the event
Shooting For Peace: Inspiring the Next Generation
Led by NBA veteran Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams the event gave students a firsthand look at how discipline on the court translates to financial success off it. Williams, alongside community managers from JPMorgan Chase, took time to answer students’ questions about financial planning, career opportunities, and the importance of building wealth early.
By combining real-world financial insights with on-court basketball engagement, Shooting for Peace made learning fun and relatable. The program continues to impact schools across the country, helping students understand the value of financial literacy through the lens of sports.
Money Matters: Financial Skills for Life
A key focus of the event was teaching students how to manage money wisely. Williams and the JPMorgan Chase team shared advice on:
- Budgeting and saving early
- The importance of credit and smart spending
- How to build wealth over time
For many students, this was their first introduction to financial strategies that could help shape their futures. Shooting for Peace ensures that young people gain these crucial life skills alongside their education.
New York Knicks Highlights: A Partnership for Impact
While the New York Knicks weren’t the event organizers, their partnership played a significant role in bringing attention to the program. As a key supporter of Shooting for Peace, the Knicks help create opportunities for students to learn from basketball professionals and financial experts alike.
By teaming up with JPMorgan Chase, NBA Alumni Chapters: Las Vegas and New York, and the AAU Council, the program continues to expand its reach, giving students across the country access to life-changing lessons.
